Copier Repair
Don’t make the problem worse
If your copier happens to break down on you there’s no doubt you want it repaired as soon as possible. This is especially true in big businesses and corporations as an idle copier could literally mean thousands of dollars in lost profits.
There a few ways to handle copier repairs. Your photocopier should come with a warranty for limited parts and labor for a period of time and may also have free onsite service while it lasts. Most big companies also purchase a service agreement when they buy their photocopiers and this agreement usually covers all repairs to the copier. The same is true when you rent a copier as the rental company will take care of the repairs for you. This isn’t a free service. You will be paying for it in the price of the rental or in the repair contract price. Some companies may handle their own repairs by having qualified technicians on their staff. These people are usually trained to repair various types of office appliances as well as copiers. However, a company with several copiers may have a technician on their staff who handles copiers only.
If you depend on an outside firm to handle your copier repairs, you may still be stuck without a copier for a few hours. An in house technician usually means that your down time will be shorter. Photocopy technician courses are available where you will receive in depth training in all aspects of copier maintenance and repair for both digital and analog copiers.
There are various parts of a copier that can be replaced relatively easy. These include drums and belts, rollers, fusers, cleaner blades, various rubber parts, bearings, lamps and gears. However, you should never try to replace a part if you don’t know exactly what you’re doing as you may make the problem worse. Could you imagine taking apart the copier, replacing the part, putting everything back together and having some parts left over? You’d be digging yourself into a deeper hole if this occurred.
When you purchase a new copier you should take the time to read the owner’s manual, especially the troubleshooting section. It’s also a good idea to practice replacing the toner and other replaceable items. You should also train all of the employees who will be using the copier to do the same thing.
There will be some other minor problems that you can fix yourself, and the most common one will be paper jams. When you’re trying to fix a paper jam try to make sure you don’t rip the paper, leaving a small piece stuck inside of the copier.
The best way to keep your copier running smoothly is to keep it clean and make sure you perform as many preventative maintenance measures on it as possible.
