Laser Printers
Find the best laser printer
When it comes to finding the best printer, it really comes down to choosing the right printer for your needs. There are so many different printing technologies available that making the right decision can be can be a daunting task.
Printers come in all shapes and sizes, work at various speeds and have diverse specifications and capabilities. But, more isn’t necessarily better when it comes to laser printers. The best way to judge a printer is by how long it takes to put out a page and the quality of the printing job when it’s done. There are also other elements at play, including the accuracy of the software used to control a printer, the paper feeder and the quality of the ink and toner. As a general rule of thumb, inkjet printers are better for printing color documents and photos. Laser printers are better suited to putting out high-quality text documents, though laser color printers also render both images and text in high quality.
Printers in Action
When you’re ready to purchase a laser printer, go to your local office supply or technology store and ask for sample printouts from the machines they have on display. You’ll likely see an HP laser printer, a Brother laser printer, a Samsung laser printer and products from the other leading producers of laser printer copiers. If you need a machine that can print, copy and send and receive faxes, ask the store’s staff about their collection of multifunction copiers.
Now, you don’t want to see a printout that a salesperson pulls out of a folder, which is probably printed on high-quality paper. Ask to see the printer in action so you can judge for yourself how well it outputs on both premium and standard paper.
Perfect Printouts
Once a printer starts processing a job, you should take note of how long the sheet takes to arrive in the output tray and how noisy the printer is when it is working. You should also inspect the denseness of the text outputted by the laser printer and the crispness with which letters are rendered. Take a good look at the build quality because laser printers face heavy use in busy office environments. Don’t forget to take into consideration the operating costs, such as replacement toner cartridges and drums.
The most important thing to remember is that laser printers will save you money on cartridges and will do a better job of printing text in black and white. If you’ll be printing a lot of colorful brochures with text, images, ad copy and diagrams, you’re better off going with a multifunction laser printer.
