Using a Copier Service
A simple pay per use system
If you’re somebody who uses a photocopier only once in blue moon, a good alternative to buying or renting a copier is to use a copier service, which is basically a pay per use method. With this system you pay a specific fee for each copy that you make. All you have to do is take in the original document as the paper is supplied by the copier service. Some photo copier services can also copy files for you if you send them to the company by email or by uploading the file by File Transfer Protocol (FTP) server. However, this may be viewed more as a printing function not photocopying.
There are many specialty printing shops and photo shops that deal with this pay per use method and you will find that many hotels and motels will also use this system in their business centers. Some small corner stores such a 7-11 may also have photocopiers installed to provide their customers with this convenient service. You may also find pay per use copiers in libraries, and many of these machines will be coin operated models.
Although copier services are most often used by people who don’t have a need to own or rent their own copier, some people do use them quite regularly. These are generally people who don’t really have the room for a copier in their home or office and people who don’t want to bother with the regular maintenance and repairs that a copier requires.
If you’re looking for a top quality copying job it’s usually a good idea to go to a specialty printing or photo printing shop than visiting you neighborhood corner store. A specialty shop should have better quality copiers, such as digital copiers, and they will usually be in better working order. At a copier service they will also have various types of copier paper to choose from and you can get the copies made in an assortment of sizes.
A corner store is generally more concerned with selling newspapers and candy than it is with making money from its copier, and most of these copiers can’t print in color. The employees of a copier service will likely have a lot more knowledge about the copier and its functions than a person working the night shift at the variety store.
Generally, the more copies you make, the cheaper they become. However, you may find quite a difference in price and quality from store to store. You will probably pay a little more per page at a copier service than at a corner store, but the extra quality will be well worth it. Of course, if you need a document copied quickly and a corner store is more convenient at the time, then that’s probably your best bet.
